Estimated Paycheck

What Is the Georgia Paycheck Calculator?

The Georgia Paycheck Calculator is a payroll estimate tool that converts gross earnings into estimated take-home pay. It supports gross-pay and hourly modes. Hourly calculations can include regular hours, overtime at 1.5 times the hourly rate, and double time at 2 times the rate. It also uses bonus pay, pay frequency, W-4 details, G-4 details, FICA limits, and payroll deductions.

A Georgia paycheck calculator estimates what remains after taxes and deductions are removed from gross pay. Enter your pay details, withholding information, year-to-date FICA wages, and deductions. The calculator then shows federal, state, local, and FICA taxes, total deductions, and estimated net pay for that pay period.

The result is a paycheck estimate, not a filed tax return or official payroll record. It is most useful for checking a pay scenario, reviewing a bonus, comparing pay frequencies, or seeing how pre-tax and post-tax deductions change the amount deposited.

How the Georgia Paycheck Calculator Formula Works

In salary mode, regular gross pay is the amount entered for one pay period. In hourly mode, the calculator adds regular, overtime, and double-time earnings.

Regular gross=(r×h)+(1.5r×o)+(2r×d)\text{Regular gross}=(r\times h)+(1.5r\times o)+(2r\times d)

Here, r is the hourly rate, h is regular hours, o is overtime hours, and d is double-time hours. Bonus pay is then added to regular gross pay.

Total gross=Regular gross+Bonus\text{Total gross}=\text{Regular gross}+\text{Bonus}

Health, FSA, or Section 125 deductions reduce the amount subject to Social Security and Medicare. Social Security is 6.2% up to the remaining portion of the coded $184,500 wage base. Medicare is 1.45%. An extra 0.9% applies only to current-period FICA wages above the coded $200,000 year-to-date threshold.

Net pay=Total grossTotal taxesTotal deductions\text{Net pay}=\text{Total gross}-\text{Total taxes}-\text{Total deductions}

Federal and Georgia withholding use annualized taxable wages. Traditional 401(k) or 403(b) contributions and eligible health deductions reduce income-tax wages. The federal calculation applies the selected filing status, coded standard deduction and brackets, Step 2 adjustment, dependents, other income, deductions, and extra withholding. Georgia uses a 4.99% rate, a $15,000 base deduction for Codes A, B, and D, or $30,000 for Code C, plus $5,000 for each entered allowance.

Pay frequency controls annualization. The code multiplies current-period taxable wages by 52, 26, 24, 12, 4, or 1, based on the selected schedule. It calculates annual tax, then divides by the same frequency. Selecting federal Step 2 halves the coded standard deduction, bracket thresholds, and bracket base-tax amounts.

Worked example: Enter $3,000 biweekly gross pay, Single federal status, Georgia Code A, and zero for all other fields. Annual gross is $78,000. Federal taxable income is $61,900 after the coded $16,100 standard deduction. Estimated federal tax is $322.58 per check. Social Security is $186.00, Medicare is $43.50, and Georgia tax is $120.91. Total taxes are $672.99, so estimated net pay is $2,327.01.

How to Use the Georgia Paycheck Calculator: Step by Step

  1. Select Salary / Gross Pay or Hourly. Salary mode uses gross pay per period. Hourly mode uses hourly rate, regular hours, overtime hours, and double-time hours.
  2. Choose the pay frequency: weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly, quarterly, or annually.
  3. Enter regular pay details and any bonus or supplemental pay. Choose whether the bonus is combined with regular wages or taxed separately at the coded flat rates.
  4. Enter year-to-date gross subject to FICA. This value helps limit Social Security withholding and determine Additional Medicare withholding.
  5. Complete the federal W-4 fields: filing status, Step 2 multiple jobs, Step 3 dependents, Step 4a other income, Step 4b deductions, and Step 4c extra withholding.
  6. Select the Georgia G-4 code, then enter dependent or additional allowances and any extra Georgia withholding.
  7. Enter a local tax rate only if it applies. Add traditional retirement, health or Section 125, and post-tax deductions for the current pay period.
  8. Check the estimate acknowledgment, then select Calculate Take-Home Pay.

The results separate gross pay, taxes, deductions, and net take-home pay. Optional rows appear only when relevant, such as Additional Medicare tax, local tax, or post-tax deductions. The explanation also shows the effective tax rate, which equals total taxes divided by total gross pay.

What Your Georgia Paycheck Result Means

Use the result to compare realistic paycheck scenarios, not to predict a final tax refund or balance due. You can test a different pay frequency, bonus method, withholding amount, or deduction and then compare the net-pay line. Change one input at a time so the effect of that entry is easier to understand.

Know Which Deductions Reduce Which Taxes

EntryHow the Calculator Treats It
Traditional 401(k) / 403(b)Reduces federal and Georgia income-tax wages, but remains subject to FICA.
Health / FSA / Section 125Reduces federal and Georgia income-tax wages and FICA wages.
Post-tax deductionsReduce net pay after taxes and do not reduce taxable wages.
Extra federal or Georgia withholdingAdds a fixed dollar amount to the current paycheck’s withholding.
Local tax rateApplies the entered percentage to total gross pay.

Combined and Separate Bonus Methods

With the combined method, the bonus is included with regular wages before federal and Georgia annualized withholding is calculated. With the separate method, the bonus is taxed at 22% for federal withholding and 4.99% for Georgia withholding. Regular wages still use the annualized calculations. FICA is calculated from total gross pay minus the health deduction in either method.

Important Assumptions and Limits

The calculator uses fixed 2026 values written into its code. It does not retrieve live tax tables, employer payroll rules, benefit-plan limits, or local requirements. Federal Step 3 dependents, Step 4a other income, and Step 4b deductions are treated as annual dollar amounts. Extra federal and Georgia withholding are treated as per-paycheck amounts.

Blank, invalid, or negative numeric entries are treated as zero. Total gross pay must be greater than zero. The result can become negative if taxes and deductions exceed gross pay because the code does not cap net pay at zero. Actual payroll may differ due to employer methods, taxable benefits, rounding, wage definitions, tax-law changes, or information not included in this tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the Georgia paycheck calculator?

The calculator provides an estimate based on the exact 2026 rates, brackets, deductions, and thresholds coded into the tool. Accuracy depends on the values you enter and whether your employer uses the same assumptions. Actual checks may differ because of payroll rounding, taxable benefits, special deductions, updated laws, or employer-specific withholding methods.

How does the calculator determine hourly gross pay?

Hourly gross pay equals regular hours times the hourly rate, plus overtime hours at 1.5 times the rate, plus double-time hours at 2 times the rate. The calculator then adds any bonus entered. It does not automatically decide which hours qualify for overtime or double time.

Does a 401(k) contribution reduce Social Security and Medicare tax?

No. In this calculator, a traditional 401(k) or 403(b) contribution reduces the wages used for federal and Georgia income-tax withholding, but it does not reduce FICA wages. Health, FSA, or Section 125 deductions reduce both income-tax wages and the wages used for Social Security and Medicare.

How are bonuses taxed in this Georgia paycheck calculator?

You can combine a bonus with regular wages or use the separate method. The separate method applies 22% federal withholding and 4.99% Georgia withholding to the bonus. The regular portion still uses annualized tax calculations. Social Security, Medicare, and any entered local tax also apply under the calculator’s normal rules.

What does year-to-date gross subject to FICA do?

Year-to-date FICA gross tells the calculator how much of the coded Social Security wage base remains and whether current wages cross the Additional Medicare threshold. The tool uses a $184,500 Social Security wage base and a $200,000 Additional Medicare threshold for its 2026 calculation settings.

What do Georgia G-4 Codes A, B, C, and D change?

The code uses a $15,000 annual base deduction for Georgia Codes A, B, and D. It uses $30,000 for Code C. Each dependent or additional allowance entered creates another $5,000 annual exemption before the calculator applies the coded 4.99% Georgia income-tax rate.

Does the calculator include local Georgia income tax?

The calculator includes an optional local tax rate field, but it defaults to 0%. When you enter a rate, the tool multiplies total gross pay by that percentage. The calculator does not identify a city, county, or local jurisdiction, so you must determine whether a local payroll tax applies.
