Estimated Paycheck

What Is the Delaware Paycheck Calculator?

The Delaware Paycheck Calculator is a payroll estimation tool that converts gross earnings into estimated net take-home pay. It annualizes eligible wages, applies the federal and Delaware tax settings stored in the code, and subtracts calculated taxes and entered deductions.

To estimate a Delaware paycheck, enter your pay frequency, wages, federal W-4 information, Delaware filing details, and deductions. The calculator estimates federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare when triggered, Delaware income tax, Delaware PFML, and an optional local percentage.

The tool works for salaried and hourly employees. It can include overtime, double-time pay, bonuses, retirement contributions, health deductions, and post-tax deductions. Results show gross pay, individual taxes, total taxes, total deductions, net take-home pay, and an effective tax rate. Each result applies to the selected pay period.

How the Delaware Paycheck Calculator Works

In salary mode, regular gross pay equals the amount entered for one pay period. In hourly mode, the calculator values regular hours at the base rate, overtime at 1.5 times the rate, and double-time hours at 2 times the rate.

R=(r×hr)+(1.5r×ho)+(2r×hd)R=(r\times h_r)+(1.5r\times h_o)+(2r\times h_d)

R is regular gross pay. r is the hourly rate. The variables hr, ho, and hd are regular, overtime, and double-time hours. The calculator then adds any bonus.

G=R+BG=R+B

Health, FSA, or Section 125 deductions reduce income-tax, FICA, and Delaware PFML wages. Traditional 401(k) or 403(b) deductions reduce federal and Delaware income-tax wages but remain subject to FICA and PFML.

TDE=max(0,(max(0,fWS))110A)f+XDET_{DE}=\frac{\max\left(0,\mathcal{B}\left(\max(0,fW-S)\right)-110A\right)}{f}+X_{DE}

For Delaware withholding, f is the number of pay periods, W is eligible pay-period income, S is the Delaware standard deduction, A is the number of allowances, and XDE is extra Delaware withholding. The bracket function uses the progressive schedule coded into the calculator.

N=G(F+SS+M+AM+DE+PFML+L)(K+H+P)N=G-(F+SS+M+AM+DE+PFML+L)-(K+H+P)

N is net pay. The first group includes federal tax, Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare, Delaware tax, PFML, and local tax. The second group includes retirement, health, and post-tax deductions.

Worked Example

Assume $3,000 of biweekly salary pay, single federal and Delaware status, one Delaware allowance, no bonus, no adjustments, no deductions, no local tax, and $0 year-to-date wages. Annual pay is $78,000. Federal taxable income is $61,900 after the $16,100 standard deduction, producing $322.58 of federal withholding per paycheck.

Social Security is $186.00, Medicare is $43.50, and Delaware PFML is $12.00. Delaware taxable income is $74,750 after the $3,250 standard deduction. State tax is $3,917 annually before the $110 allowance credit. The final Delaware withholding is $146.42 per period. Total taxes are $710.50, leaving estimated net pay of $2,289.50. The displayed effective tax rate is 23.7%.

How to Use the Delaware Paycheck Calculator: Step by Step

  1. Select Salary / Gross Pay or Hourly. Salary mode accepts one pay-period amount, while hourly mode calculates earnings from rates and hours.
  2. Choose weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly, quarterly, or annual pay frequency. The calculator uses this setting to annualize taxable wages.
  3. Enter gross pay per period. For hourly pay, enter the hourly rate, regular hours, overtime hours, and double-time hours.
  4. Enter year-to-date gross subject to FICA and PFML. This amount affects the Social Security and PFML wage limits and the Additional Medicare threshold.
  5. Add any bonus or supplemental pay. Choose whether the calculator should combine it with regular wages or apply separate flat withholding rates.
  6. Complete the federal W-4 section. Select filing status and enter any applicable Step 2, Step 3, Step 4a, Step 4b, or Step 4c information.
  7. Select your Delaware filing status. Enter Delaware withholding allowances and any extra Delaware withholding for the pay period.
  8. Enter a local tax percentage when applicable. Add traditional retirement, health or Section 125, and post-tax deductions for the current period.
  9. Check the acknowledgment box, then select Calculate Take-Home Pay. The calculation button remains disabled until the box is checked.

The results show pay-period amounts. Total Taxes combines federal, FICA, Delaware, PFML, and optional local taxes. Total Deductions combines the three deduction fields. Net Take-Home Pay is gross pay minus both totals. Additional Medicare, local tax, and post-tax deductions appear only when their calculated amounts are greater than zero.

Factors That Affect Your Delaware Paycheck Estimate

Pretax and Post-Tax Deductions

Each deduction field changes the estimate differently. Enter amounts for the current pay period rather than annual totals. Using the wrong field may affect several tax lines.

InputHow the calculator uses it
Traditional 401(k) or 403(b)Reduces federal and Delaware income-tax wages but does not reduce FICA or PFML wages.
Health, FSA, or Section 125Reduces federal, Delaware, Social Security, Medicare, and PFML wage amounts.
Post-tax deductionsReduce net pay without reducing calculated taxes.
Delaware allowancesReduce annual Delaware tax by $110 for each entered allowance.
Extra withholdingAdds the entered amount to federal or Delaware withholding for the pay period.
Local tax rateApplies the entered percentage directly to total gross pay.

Delaware Filing Status and Tax Brackets

The calculator offers two Delaware filing choices. Single, head of household, and married filing separately use a $3,250 standard deduction. Married filing jointly uses $6,500. After that deduction, the code applies progressive rates from 0% through 6.6%, then subtracts the annual allowance credits.

The code applies no Delaware tax to the first $2,000 of taxable income. Higher portions move through the coded 2.2%, 3.9%, 4.8%, 5.2%, 5.55%, and 6.6% brackets. These rates apply through the bracket formula rather than as one rate on all income.

Social Security, Medicare, and Delaware PFML

Social Security is 6.2% of eligible wages until the calculator’s $184,500 wage base is reached. Delaware PFML is modeled at 0.4% and uses the same wage base. The year-to-date gross field determines how much wage room remains for both calculations.

Medicare is 1.45% of eligible wages without that wage cap. Additional Medicare is 0.9% of the part of the current paycheck that pushes year-to-date eligible wages above $200,000. A health deduction reduces these wages, but a traditional retirement contribution does not.

Combined and Separate Bonus Methods

Combined mode adds the bonus to regular wages before federal and Delaware withholding are annualized. Separate mode calculates regular-wage withholding first. It then applies 22% federal withholding and 6.6% Delaware withholding to the bonus. FICA and PFML still use total gross pay after the health deduction.

Local Tax and Calculator Limits

The local tax field applies any entered percentage to total gross pay. For example, entering 1.25 applies a 1.25% tax. The calculator does not determine whether a local tax applies to your workplace, home address, or specific situation.

Blank, invalid, or negative numerical entries are treated as zero. The calculation stops when total gross pay is not greater than zero. However, deductions are not capped at available earnings. Large deductions or extra withholding amounts can therefore produce a negative net-pay estimate.

This tool uses fixed 2026 values stored in its code. It does not connect to employer payroll records or live tax tables. Actual pay may differ because of rounding, taxable benefits, imputed income, payroll corrections, employer contribution rules, updated laws, or items not included in the form. The result is not payroll, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my Delaware take-home pay?

Enter your gross wages, pay frequency, federal W-4 information, Delaware filing details, and payroll deductions. The calculator subtracts estimated federal income tax, FICA taxes, Delaware income tax, PFML, optional local tax, and deductions from gross pay. The remaining amount is the estimated take-home pay for that pay period.

Does the Delaware paycheck calculator include PFML?

Yes. The calculator applies a 0.4% Delaware PFML employee premium to eligible wages. Health, FSA, or Section 125 deductions reduce PFML wages, while traditional 401(k) or 403(b) contributions do not. The code stops the premium after year-to-date wages reach its $184,500 wage base.

How do Delaware withholding allowances affect my paycheck?

Each Delaware withholding allowance reduces the calculator’s annual state tax by $110. The code applies the standard deduction and progressive tax brackets first. It then subtracts the combined allowance credit and divides the remaining annual tax by the selected number of pay periods.

How does the calculator handle overtime and double time?

Hourly mode values overtime hours at 1.5 times the entered hourly rate and double-time hours at 2 times the rate. It adds those amounts to regular hourly earnings and any bonus. The tool does not decide which hours legally qualify, so users must enter each type correctly.

How are bonuses taxed in the Delaware paycheck calculator?

You can combine a bonus with regular wages or use separate treatment. Under separate treatment, the calculator applies 22% federal withholding and 6.6% Delaware withholding to the bonus. Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare when triggered, PFML, and any local percentage follow their separate wage calculations.

Does a traditional 401(k) reduce FICA and Delaware PFML?

No. In this calculator, traditional 401(k) and 403(b) contributions reduce federal and Delaware income-tax wages. They remain subject to Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare, and Delaware PFML. Health, FSA, or Section 125 deductions reduce both income-tax wages and the wages used for those payroll contributions.

How accurate is this Delaware paycheck estimate?

The estimate reflects your entries and the fixed 2026 settings in the calculator code. It does not use live payroll records or account for every employer-specific item. Actual paychecks may differ because of rounding, taxable benefits, updated tax rules, employer PFML arrangements, local tax requirements, or other payroll adjustments.
