Maine Salary Calculator

2026 employee withholding estimate using Maine’s revised August 2026 withholding method

Salary & Pay Frequency

Annual gross salary before taxes and employee deductions.

Federal W-4 Settings

Affects federal withholding only. Maine instructs employers not to reduce Maine withholding for federal Step 4(b).

Maine Form W-4ME Settings

Maine Revenue Services revised the 2026 withholding tables in August 2026. The revised percentage method uses a $5,300 allowance value, updated withholding standard deductions, and a 2% high-income withholding surcharge. Maine still uses Single and Married withholding schedules.
Each 2026 Maine withholding allowance is $5,300 annually. If no valid W-4ME is on file, use Single with 0 allowances.
Use only when a valid W-4ME exemption applies. This single checkbox does not apportion a paycheck between exempt tribal-land wages and nonexempt wages.

Deductions

Reduces federal and Maine income-tax withholding wages; generally does not reduce Social Security or Medicare wages.
Assumes qualified Section 125 treatment that reduces federal, FICA, Maine withholding, and PFML reportable wages.
Assumes a qualifying Section 125 salary-reduction contribution.

Year-to-Date & Supplemental Options

Used to stop PFML premiums when covered wages reach the 2026 Social Security wage cap of $184,500.
Maine permits a flat 5% withholding rate for separately paid supplemental wages.
Enter the actual employee deduction rate, from 0% through 0.50%. Default is 0 because the amount passed to employees is employer-dependent. PFML premiums are withheld after federal and state taxes.

Local Tax Estimate

Manual simplified estimate only. No general Maine municipal wage-income withholding system is automatically assumed or detected. Leave at 0 unless a separately verified payroll-related local charge applies.
Estimates only. Withholding may differ from final tax liability and employer payroll treatment. This calculator does not determine Maine residency, nonresident workday thresholds, tribal-land wage apportionment, military-spouse eligibility, PFML private-plan treatment, employee classification, or local jurisdiction. Not tax, legal, payroll, or accounting advice.
